The city of Palermo has so much to offer, and it is truly easy to fill every moment of a vacation without any problem. Indeed, we must say that all around Palermo there is an island rich in history, culture, splendid landscapes and genuine flavors. To get to know them, the Department of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region, together with the FS Foundation and Slow Food, proposes the successful initiative of the Historical Trains of Taste again this year. Thus it will be possible to leave on board vintage trains on trips that combine the discovery of territory with that of the products that characterize it.
The first train leaving from Palermo is scheduled on Sunday, April 28. The “Train of votive loaves and cheeses of Agrigento”, will stop in San Biagio Platani – where in this period the “archi di pane” (bread arches) are set up, a traditional scenography for Easter celebrations – and Sant’Angelo Muxaro. In May there will be the “Train of flavors of the Belice and Segesta countryside (12 May); the “Train of the preserves and cheeses of the Val di Mazara” (19 May), while on June 9th the “Holiday sweets train” will travel between the provinces of Caltanissetta and Agrigento, with stops in Sutera and Favara. The initiative includes 52 routes, until December 8, with departures also from Catania and Messina. You will travel on vintage trains, with old locomotives and 30s wagons like the Centoporte and the Corbellini. To know all the details of the trips, the list of itineraries and practical information, you can visit the tourist site of the Sicilian Region.
