September in Palermo

September is full of events in Palermo. Let’s start with the night visits on the roofs of the cathedral, arranged for tonight and tomorrow (but also on 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30 September). Access is allowed from 8.30pm to 11.30pm, ticket costs 5 euros. It is a truly evocative visit, allowing you to see rooftops and towers from a completely different perspective.
The next day, September 3, the traditional acchianata starts at around 9 pm, that is the night pilgrimage of the faithful of Santa Rosalia who walk up the slopes of Mount Pellegrino to the patron saint’s sanctuary, to celebrate her on her feast day. This is an interesting opportunity to get in touch with one of the most deepfelt palermitan traditions.

Ten days later the Festambiente Mediterreaneo starts, which will be held from 14 to 17 at the Cantieri Culturali della Zisa. This ecofestival, at its fourth edition is arranged by Legambiente and it aims to convey a sustainability message promoting good practices in mobility habits, waste production and management, cleanliness, local food, careful use of resources. The festival includes a craft market, a dining area with a delicious Mediterranean menu, activities for children, meetings and music – on the 14th, for example, there will be a concert by Gaudats Junk Band, playing on handmade instruments, made repurposing the most various items.

After a week, the Ballarò Buskers Festival begins in the area with the same name in the old town. This is festival of street artists – actors and acrobats, circus artists and musicians – who will perform on the streets and squares from 22 to 24. A new and cheerful way to enjoy one of the oldest areas in the city, known for its picturesque market.

Finally, from September 28 to October 1, the Sherbeth Festival will take place: the great ice cream festival, in its ninth edition, brings to the city the best Italian and foreign handmade ice cream with 45 ice cream masters that will propose their creations, great classics as well as unprecedented tastes, always based on the best products of the territory.
